Question

Assalamualaikum and jazakallah khair for the answer to my query(musafaha should be done with both hands, but people(muslims) who shake hands with one hand alone ask us to show hadeeth or riwayah about shaking both the hands. they call it a bidaah, please clear this confusion and quote hadeeth or riwayah regarding this. Also please clear

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is Sunnah to make Musfahah with two hands. There are many Hadeeth’s which serve as proof for that.

Rasullullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) made Musafahah with Hadhrat Abdullah Bin Mas’ood (Radhiyallahu Anhu) while the two palms of Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) was in Hadhrat Abdullah Bin Mas’ood (Radhiyallahu Anhu)’s palm.[1] It is unfathomable that a Sahabi would only stretch out one hand to Rasullullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam). Even if it is accepted that Hadhrat Abdullah Bin Mas’ood (Radhiyallahu Anhu) only made Musafahah with one hand, then the action of Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) would be given preference over the action of a Sahabi.

The practice of making Musafahah with both the hands was that of the great scholars of the past. It has been narrated that Hadhrat Abdullah Bin Mubarak (Rahmatullahi Alayhi) had made Musafahah with Hadhrat Hammad Bin Zaid (Rahmatullahi Alayhi) with both hands.[2]

There are narrations which prove making Musafahah with one hand also, but it is now forbidden because it has become the practise of the Kuffar and it is not permissible for one to emulate the Kuffar.[3]

To refer to a Sunnah as Bid’ah is very dangerous and detrimental. One should refrain from such statements.
